I am deeply concerned about the recent bulldozer action in Goa, where several houses were demolished, leaving many families homeless. The solution cannot be simply to bulldoze these houses without providing alternative housing options or recovery to the affected families. This approach is not only inhumane but also violates the issue of shelter. Instead, the government should take a more holistic approach to address this issue. Firstly, it should identify and regularize genuine cases of unauthorized constructions, providing relief to those who have built homes in good faith. Secondly, it should provide affordable housing options and recovery to those who are affected by the demolition drive. And , it should take stringent measures to prevent illegal constructions in the future, including stricter enforcement of building regulations and increased penalties for violators.
