This is with reference to the news report 'Std IV boy brutally assaulted by 2 teachers in Camurlim school' (TGE , Sept 4). The brutal torture inflicted by two teachers of a private school in Camurlim, causing severe injuries to a 9-year-old student, is both outrageous and condemnable. It is also unfortunate that the incident comes on the eve of 'Teachers' Day' --- a day dedicated to honour and celebrate all teachers for their noble and dedicated profession in moulding the future and careers of students to become responsible citizens and future leaders of the country. Corporal punishment as we are all aware of is now forbidden by law, making it a punishable offence to inflict physical torture on students or even scolding them. Under these circumstances this calls for immediate suspension of the two teachers and severe punishment by way of hefty fines and imprisonment, which will serve as a deterrent, so that such brutality is not witnessed in future.
