Regarding Goa CM Pramod Sawant’s statement that the Wayanad disaster has woken Goa up, it is unfortunate that the Goa government only addresses environmental violations after a tragedy strikes. Why were environmental activists, who have been raising these concerns for years, ignored by the government?
Anyway, better late than never, I welcome the Goa government’s decision that the Talathi will monitor hill cutting and take appropriate action. I hope this materialises! But why isn’t the Goa government also making the Talathi responsible for monitoring illegal land, field, and waterbody filling? Won’t these also lead to man-made environmental calamities and loss of life and property? I request the Goa CM to consider this as well.
