The proposed bridge over the Baga Creek, connecting Arpora (Tambudki) to Sautawado, Baga Beach and Calangute, is an important infrastructure project that can greatly ease transportation. If built through the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), it could help reduce the heavy traffic congestion on the nearly three-kilometre stretch from Calangute to Baga Beach.
The Tambudki“Arpora to Sautawado“Calangute bridge near the Rio Resort would provide a shorter route to Baga Beach, the sewage treatment plant, and nearby areas, benefiting both locals and tourists.
This project should be taken up by GSIDC in the public interest, as traffic congestion in Calangute and the northern parts of Arpora has become a major inconvenience. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 19 crore, including the widening and extension of the road on the Arpora side.
Earlier, some Arpora residents had opposed the road extension to Tambudki due to concerns over environmental and land loss. However, people’s views matter, and their suggestions should guide planning, as they are the true stakeholders.
The bridge would stand near landmarks such as the Rio Resort, Donal’s Beauty salt pan, and the surrounding green fields on both sides. At present, people cross the creek during low tide to reach the beach and their fields, but this becomes very difficult during the monsoon.
If constructing a 12-metre-wide bridge is not possible, at least a pedestrian bridge should be built to maintain ecological balance and preserve the natural beauty of the area. This part of Calangute along the Baga Creek is one of the few areas still free from construction and should remain open for natural enjoyment.
