Excessive tarballs on at least three of our beaches made the news this weekend. Many Hindu devotees were on the shore to perform the ritual of Ganesh visarjan (immersion). It was sorrowful to see Lord Ganesha getting a tar welcome on these beaches.
Our Government keeps talking about boosting tourism, but then these horrific scenes will not help at all. Tourists who see this will make a mockery of our State. Has the government done anything to address this issue?
We have heard about giving a push to tourism but does the government have any idea who is pushing this deadly material on the shores? It’s high time the government get its act together and addresses this perennial issue. Tourists will not go back with a pleasant picture of Goa even they such gory scenes on the State’s beaches. With Covid around, the tourism industry is tottering and add to that now the tarballs are another worry.
Also, I wonder whether the fish we eat is free of this tarball infection.
