The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court had ruled that academic institutions are required to be kept away from politics. The Court held that a person in employment of an educational institution was required not to have any political association or connection whatsoever while in service.
As the Goa Government is duty bound to comply with all Court directives, the Education department must crack the whip and act against all staff at educational institutions in the State who are illegally involved or connected with any political party.
Unlike our good old college days, student council elections today in colleges and at the University level are fought with political patronage.
This is not at all very conducive for the educational campus. When a teacher remains neutral and is not expressing their view as a result of any political affiliation, but is enabling an authentic debate to develop, our students can leave with all the tools they need to actively engage in politics now and in the future.
