There have been reports of match fixing of football matches elsewhere in the world but was unheard of in Goan football until recently. Now match fixing has raised its ugly head in the pro football league, where a newly promoted side Chapora Yuvak Sangh had nine of its players got involved in match fixing besides some players from Calangute Assn, Pax of Nagoa and has brought a very bad name for the game in Goa and India. Football has been played in Goa from times immemorial with the star studded Goan teams like Salgaokar, Dempo, Vasco, Sporting Club, Sesa and never was it known that there was any match fixing involved. These newly promoted novice teams should be penalised and thrown out for bringing the sport into disrepute and that will act as a deterrent to other teams in the future.
