A system that values life at five lakh rupees

The metro accident that occurred in Mulund, Mumbai, is deeply tragic and has claimed the lives of innocent citizens. This incident has exposed the gross mismanagement in metro construction work. The project has been awarded to a contractor named ‘Milan Road Build Tech’. When Mumbai has several large and experienced infrastructure companies, it is a serious question how such a critical project like the metro was entrusted to a relatively unknown firm. Metro construction is continuing day and night with complete disregard for safety norms. Noise and dust pollution have increased alarmingly, with a visible adverse impact on the city’s air quality. On what criteria was the contractor’s competence assessed? What standards were applied while awarding the contract?  Imposing a fine of five crore rupees on the contractor while offering only five lakh rupees as compensation to the families of the deceased ” what kind of equation of justice is this? Across Mumbai, construction work continues with blatant violations of safety regulations. Citizens are therefore forced to protect themselves, because in this system, the value of your life is only five lakh rupees.
