The old must make way for young in Congress

The Congress by pitching for the 80-year-old Mapanna Mallikarjun Kharge as its head is taking a step towards its political grave. After a series of political mishaps, the party seems unable to grasp the sense of urgency to face reality by making the right moves towards a comeback.

The party needs a younger, charismatic leader able to reach out and connect with the masses that have been leaching away.  In the current scenario Shashi Tharoor would undoubtedly be a better bet to energize and invigorate the party which is currently in a state of flux. There is a hope for the Congress Party to bounce back but for this to happen there needs to be radical change with strategic steps in the right direction.

The Congress needs to have a younger, dynamic person to lead it through its crisis and not a further dampener. At the 2012 BJP conclave held in Goa, L.K Advani was edged out as he was 70, but it is going to be double standards for Narendra Modi in 2024. A brighter future needs passionate, and confident young leaders willing to challenge the status quo and stand up for their convictions.
