The science of fear: How worry becomes reality

Neuroscience research has uncovered a powerful truth about the human mind ” the more you fear something, the more likely it is to happen. This phenomenon is linked to a brain function known as predictive coding. Essentially, the brain is constantly making predictions about the world based on past experiences and current expectations. When fear dominates your thoughts, the brain begins to prioritise and focus on that outcome, increasing the chances of it becoming reality.
Predictive coding means your brain is not just passively observing life; it is actively shaping it. If your mind fixates on a negative event, your brain unconsciously directs attention and behaviour in ways that align with that fear. Over time, this focus can manifest the very outcomes you most want to avoid. On the other hand, positive expectations and confident beliefs can prime the brain for success and favourable results.
