The Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho reportedly said that the fitting of CCTV cameras and signages at different locations across the state will be fast-tracked so as to monitor incidents of over-speeding. This is a good move by the government as many of the road accidents take place due to over-speeding. But the question that arises is how do the traffic police stop the vehicle that is over-speeding by observing the CCTV footage? For this to happen there needs to be proper coordination between the cops following the footage and the traffic cops on the road. In foreign countries it is observed that the police car chases the speeding vehicle. This may not be possible in the state of Goa as it would require more cops on duty and more police vehicles. It would be desirable to have pictorial signages depicting an accident just like there are pictorial warnings on cigarette packets. Be that as it may, it is left to the individual vehicular driver to drive cautiously and at the prescribed limit.
