Chief Minister Pramod Sawant whilst reacting to the recent tragic accident on Zuari bridge has reportedly claimed that almost 95% of such accidents are occurring at night only due to drunk driving in Goa. Well, if Sawant truly feels that most Goans are losing their precious lives in such tragic road accidents due to their own drinking habits then why is he still allowing his own government to casually issue licenses for people (mostly outsiders) to open up more bars/ liquor outlets even in some of the most remote villages in the name of wooing neighbouring domestic tourists in the state?
I think that our CM instead of blaming Goans for most road accidents at night should himself own up for the current state of affairs, try to put some strict restrictions on the sale of liquor in the state, cut down the number of all bars/ liquor outlets drastically, give harsh punishment to those indulging in drunken driving and then dream of stopping all innocent people from dying in such tragic roads accidents.
