As per the latest threat perception to Goa government Ministers and MLAs, 15 MLAs are to get security cover in the X, Y and Z categories, which will entail a huge expenditure amounting to crores of rupees for the state exchequer. On the face of it, it appears to be more of a status symbol than any real threat to the lives of our elected representatives, given that Goa has always been, and continues to be, a peaceful state, with no incidents of state terrorism, threats or shoot-outs. Secondly, in such a peaceful atmosphere, why should our elected representatives fear for their lives if one has a clean slate in the discharge of duties for the welfare and selfless service of the people, and the development of the state?
