Tiatrs go missing on feast days

The feast of St Cajetan was celebrated on August 7 where devotees attended the masses and services held in the church.

As usual there was a band and stalls of sweets like kaddyo boddyo etc besides a variety of snacks. A whist drive and football match were also held as part of the celebrations. The rains did not dampen the spirit of the parishioners and their festive mood.

However, what was amiss this time was the traditional tiatr of local tiatrists which used to be held on the feast day. Festakars recalled earlier days remembering living tiatrists who are   octogenarians -- Sebastiao D’Souza who wrote about 16 tiatrs and composed several songs; Luis Jose Rafael Pinto and Conceicao Assis Fernandes ex-Sacristan of the Church.

We hope our present villagers are inspired by the good work of these tiatrists and come forward to stage Konkani tiatrs in the interest of our mother tongue in future.
