Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent Goa visit had clearly ruled out any alliance with regional parties and had expressed full confidence of BJP winning an absolute majority on its own.
Unfortunately, the local BJP leaders who were initially displaying their bravado are now heard appealing to regional parties like the MGP and Goa Forward for alliance parleys. This itself clearly shows that BJP is not at all confident.
Today, most local BJP leaders know that without the services of a charismatic leader like the late Manohar Parrikar it is difficult for them to retain power.
They are therefore currently seen trying to woo a legendary MGP leader like Sudin Dhavalikar on their side and expecting him to somehow help the BJP to make a comeback for a third time.
With 11 parties likely to be in the fray, BJP is waiting to see a split in the secular votes (which looks near possible) in the 2022 assembly polls and hoping of somehow forming their own government for a third consecutive time by later buying a few power-hungry newly elected MLAs from the rival parties, including the Congress.
