Unauthorized constructions are a significant concern in Goa, reflecting broader issues like disregard for the law and real estate registration processes. This problem also affects elections, as those involved in transactions of illegal constructions may influence voting outcomes with the support of political parties, ultimately fueling corruption. A critical gap exists between issuing demolition notices and their execution. In a personal case involving an unauthorized construction, I filed a Right to Information (RTI) request and discovered that the Block Development Office lacks a clear process for enforcing demolition notices that aren't followed. To address this issue, the government should establish a clear process for enforcing demolition notices and ensure timely action against unauthorized constructions. This would help prevent unnecessary judicial interventions.
