In Margao, it is encouraging to see signs informing the public on the types of plastic that are now banned i.e. Single use or plastic bags ( which I understand that under 50 microns is banned). Saying which, I have found some shop keepers in the Margao new market who openly flout the ban !
However coming to my main point, I have noticed that many Village Panchayats (including Colva) have not put up clearly visible/multiple signs in the villages informing people on the plastic ban and I find single use plastic cups/spoons etc regularly thrown about in Colva and some commercial establishments in Colva still giving out plastic bags ( under 50 microns) with the excuse that consumers are asking for it !
Can I request panchayats (including Colva) to make it mandatory for all commercial establishments to carry signs informing consumers on the plastic ban; in addition to the panchayats putting up signs all across their respective villages. We need to take some tougher action if we want to look at ending this plastic pollution menace.
