Goa is seeing a horrific high accident rate for quite some time now and whilst yes speeding and drunk driving can be included as major causes, the Goa government cannot evade its accountability and responsibility on these serious issues. I have experienced competent Governments abroad who took onus and via a clear and strict policy/laws, managed to significantly bring the accident rate down with proper roads/signs, painted speed breakers, pothole free roads, stiff fines, license suspension, road monitoring via cameras, etc. Why can’t all this be done in small Goa where many innocent people also die in these accidents ? The Goa ministers seem to busy with their accumulation of wealth via corruption and destruction of Goa. I say with hesitation that perhaps the Goa government will only act if a senior ruling politician or a major party sponsor meets with a horrific accident. The recent monsoon assembly session was a great opportunity for the ministers particularly the Chief Minister and Transport Minister to introduce some tough measures/legislation to address this very serious issue; but they seem to be least bothered.
