Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) says they want well behaved tourists! They in fact are washing their hands off their Frankenstein tourist creation. The TTAG chief lamented the fact that Russian Charters are held up as ‘Russians fear the Covid wave!’ The Covid wave is in Russia, witnessing rising cases! The TTAG should defer the Russian Charters till the cases come down: but no, they want them now! The lockdown parties, weddings hosted by TTAG members with no reprimand, the opening up of tourism in March 2021 resulting in thousand deaths in Goa, the push for hinterland tourism when there are no STPs or police outposts: all problems created by the TTAG.
TTAG comprises unorganised traders like the bhelpuri gaddas that make a killing serving lunch and dinner to thousands of tourists. Can they make policy decisions? Tourism policy decisions must be made with the true selling point: Goans and the environment. Such people would first rule, like the Maldives: take back all the plastic bottles brought by you. Imagine, 90 lakh tourists come every year with 90 lakh plastic bottles and leave it here!
