Traffic cops get adept at finetuning corruption

There are reports that motorists who have violated traffic rules by way of speeding, jumping red signals, not wearing seat belts and helmets, not carrying proper documents, etc have been stopped by traffic cops and home guards and taken to task. The offenders are threatened with a large official fine or else after bargaining the amount is brought down. Since Big Brothers (CCTV) and people may secretly record the dealings, the offenders are asked to pay the amount through GPay at some pre-designated shops. Perhaps the shopkeepers are hand-in-glove and accept the payment in their account on behalf of the ‘authorities'. Once the transaction is confirmed the offenders are let off scot-free. The GPay arrangement is a good example of ‘honest corruption’ as nothing can be proved against the alleged bribe takers. Moreover, it follows the dictum and spirit of Digital India and paperless work.

The condition of most interior village roads in the state have really gone from bad to worse with just a few continuous heavy showers of one month in the ongoing monsoons in Goa.
