The Ironman event which was held on November 13 in Panaji saw traffic curbs on almost all major roads in the city. As the traffic was diverted from arterial roads, the citizens had to face problems while commuting. We need to introspect whether Goa really needs these events. This introspection is necessary as the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant seems to be desirous of making Goa the permanent destination of Ironman.
How much and what did Goa earn from this event? There needs to be a practical assessment of it. The event is organised by a private body called "Yoska". Senior bureacrats of All India Services seem to be endorsing the event. Even if the fitness theme is considered in its support, should government machinery be sponsoring a private event?
