The Supreme Court on Friday released all six life term convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. The order came out after the Tamil Nadu government's recommendation to do so. The main accused Nalini and her husband Murugan along with four others convicted by the court were freed after three decades of punishment. The assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in 1991 at a rally was committed by LTTE with human bomb trying to garland Rajiv Gandhi and killing him on the spot. The release of these criminals has raised eyebrows over the law and its bearing. Inspite of proven crime and punishment for life time the court decided to free the criminals on account of recommendations and their good conduct in jail. If one can commit a crime and come out after a long time in prison than all such criminals should be set free. The Congress also earlier stated that they have no objection to release of the culprits behind the act. The release looks to be an political move ahead of 2024 elections with Congress trying to gain sympathy over the release of victims thus trying to win hearts of people.
