Nalini and other convicts of Rajiv Gandhi assassination case are set free. There is a whisper of political tone to this freedom of convicts. To add to the hidden political agenda, Sonia forgave the assassins in true spirit of her belief. Further Priyanka visited her in prison lending credence that the family who was the most aggrieved was in a conciliatory mood. The nation mourned the tragic end of the PM but time is a great healer and it is natural that sentiments and emotions can give way to forgiveness. The grave crime of involvement of foreign nationals against India is a serious matter. It is not a kangaroo court that condemned convicts to gallows, but there was not iota of truth that court proceedings were framed. Fortunately the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment as a gesture of goodwill.
Rajiv was the most youthful, promising PM of India and such high end murders must not be treated with kid gloves with political undercurrents. Rajiv did not deserve the inhuman, tragic end for intervening in Sri Lanka, so this reprieve is in poor taste.
