This Traffic safety awareness was a good initiative undertaken by the Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) in association with Traffic Police. All very well, making people aware of the importance of road safety by the wearing of seatbelts, wearing ISI marked helmets, driving within the speed limits, etc. It makes one wonder, however, do the people themselves don’t understand the importance of such measures? Do we have to keep reminding them that this is all for their own safety and for the safety off others as well?
In Mumbai too, such awareness drives are conducted regularly but violations continue to take place, especially wrong side driving. Under the guise of saving time, they end up losing time, claiming somebody’s life or losing their own lives.
The people need to decide, is it safety or is it death. Losing one’s own life may be the motorists’ choice but killing another person is not acceptable.
