The traffic signal lights at the Mapusa Municipal junction should be rectified by qualified, trained road traffic engineers and the company officials who have designed the electronic software working of the traffic signals. There seems to be no technical engineers from the concerned department to check and monitor the signals. The issue was raised before the signals were replaced with the new ones, but the problem is nothing but chaotic traffic jams for vehicles coming from the court side towards Mapusa or free to turn towards Duler or go towards Xavier's College, while the traffic from Xavier's College has the timing signal the same as that of the court, which causes traffic jams at the unwanted circle, as these vehicles can proceed to Duler, towards the court or Mapusa.
How can all the vehicles move at the same time? Let’s not make a mockery of the traffic signals and their technology, and it is only in Goa that we have traffic signals failing as soon as they are commissioned.
Speed breakers, signboards, and everything that is good for the safety of the drivers is always messed up by the PWD engineers or the contractors. There is no accountability from all these officials and even the traffic police are not bothered to inform the concerned engineers. They enjoy fat salaries with zero or 50 per cent output at the cost of the exchequer.
Will the Deputy Collector step in to order a site inspection and a complete report from the concerned officials? At a four-junction, it is simple logic: three red stops, one green signal, and if there is sufficient space and marking, then the side-road vehicles are allowed to proceed.
