Instead of capitalising on app-based aggregators to serve high-end clientele and streamline transport services, the government is, inexplicably, yielding to unscrupulous elements that are tarnishing Goa’s reputation. It is high time the government took decisive action to resolve this gridlock, for the sake of society and the state’s future. The Goa government must draw inspiration from the efficient transport system of neighbouring Mumbai, where even autorickshaws are integrated into Ola and Uber app services. This model provides an abundance of choices, with non-app-based autorickshaws, taxis, and BEST buses plying the roads with impressive frequency, ensuring commuters are never left stranded. In stark contrast, Goa’s transport system is woefully inadequate.
Locals, too, have embraced the user-friendly Goa Miles app, which offers reasonably priced fares and convenient internal travel options, including airport transfers. There is an urgent need for more ride-hailing services to enter the market, as competition fosters innovation and excellence, the pillars of a thriving tourism sector. By adopting these modern solutions, Goa can enhance its transport system and uphold its status as a top-tier tourist destination.
