This is with reference to new items "Now, Utpal warns of 'tough decisions' if denied ticket" (The Goan Everyday, November 19, 2021).
Utpal Parrikar should have known better before issuing this ultimatum to the bosses of Bharatiya Janata Party. Gone are the days when aspiring leaders can rest on their past laurels. Goa CM Dr Pramod Sawant has already minced no words in stating that shortlisting candidates for tickets and the connection with masses in constituencies would be the major factors.
Is the young Utpal Parrikar a popular face? Can he deliver his late father and ex-CM of Manohar Parrikar Bhai's old bastion to his party's kitty in 2022?
What has he done to stake a claim to a ticket in a crucial election when new entrants like All India Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have thrown their hats in the ring?
Has he undertaken any work in his dream constituency to inspire confidence in his party's leadership? Is he a role model to the youth of Goa?
Just a famous surname does not take you anywhere in today's cut-throat world. Bharatiya Janata Party is known to deny tickets to spouses and sons and daughters of their deceased leaders.
Utpal Parrikar is still young. He is a political greenhorn. He has jumped the gun. He should think twice before making such a public statement.
