Voting is an important tool in a democracy and it should be exercised more as a duty than a right. Every citizen who has completed 18 years of age should compulsorily get one’s name enrolled in the voter list and he should exercise his franchise compulsorily. Refraining from casting one’s vote will amount to abstaining from exercising one’s rights and duties envisaged in the Constitution. It is only by the active participation of citizens in the electoral process, a strong and democratic government can be elected. Elections are the lifeline of the democratic setup and eligible voters abstaining from voting amount to failure in discharging their duty. Elections provide a way for the people to assert their voice, opinion and choose the person whose priorities and ideas matches with theirs. Elections are the lifeline of a democratic setup and to elect an eligible politician, every vote polled by voters holds the key. Therefore, to keep alive democracy and elect a government of one’s choice, 100 per cent participation in polling is necessary.
