Warning boards near water bodies needed

Yet again a young life has been snuffed out at the Aravalem waterfalls where a youngster entered the stream and got drowned. The other water bodies that are dangerous are the Dudhsagar waterfall, Baga creek and some of the beaches due to rip currents and rare rogue waves.

Despite the fact that there are lifeguards at most places, red flags and warning boards are erected yet, people enter the water bodies. This is not against the tourists but most become excited and careless and get carried away on seeing the beaches of Goa.

Requests by the lifeguards fall on deaf ears and we cannot expect the cops to be everywhere all the time. The government should put up display boards with accident and death statistics near water bodies.

For more effect, there could be pictorial representations of people trapped in water bodies and howling for help. Some may consider these steps to be gruesome but perhaps these could act as deterrents.
