Every time I meet people in Panaji especially at cafes, market or shopping centre and now even hospitals I start thinking what language I should speak first. Konkani and even English is slowly becoming obsolete in Goa. Some pretend understanding our local language but when they reply I can understand that he or she is not from Goa. The volume of strangers in Goa is definitely very high and I make a point nowadays to start speaking broken Hindi as hardly people speak Konkani. I am feeling sad that as senior citizen I cannot speak my own language which is slowly dying. This, I am writing from hospital as I am almost turned into a staff member since a relative is in MICU for the last 3 months and earlier 5 months for minor illnesses and I keep on coming and going. I am sad I cannot speak my own language Konkani and converse with people when I sit on those benches.
