Goa records the biggest single-day spike of 388 Covid-19 cases amid celebrations during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Beaches were crowded with tourists who did not follow the pandemic related protocol. The state saw a jump in active cases from 461 to 1,671 on Sunday and the positivity rate soars to 10.76 per cent. The wedding season, which commenced in December, will probably go on till February when the spike in Covid-19 cases is expected to reach its peak. Hence wedding receptions could become super-spreaders in the days to come. Wedding halls are filled to capacity with the guests. The owner of the reception hall has no say in this regard. In weddings receptions where there is dancing, social distancing is almost impossible. People crowd at the buffet table also. In order to prevent wedding receptions from becoming super-spreaders of the virus it would be desirable to keep the number of guests to the bare minimum. There should be sanitizers available at the entrance of the hall. The guests should also be provided with masks before they enter the hall.
