In solidarity to seek justice for their colleague who was killed in a brutal rape and murder incident at Kolkata’s Kar Hospital last week doctors and medical students besides support staff of hospitals across Goa went on strike and held a huge demonstration in Panaji on Saturday. Hundreds of thousands of Indian health workers and their supporters reportedly launched a nationwide strike to protest against the brutal assault on a young doctor. Incidentally West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee led a rally in Kolkata, demanding justice for 'raped and murdered' woman doctor. Mamata said that from day one, she has been with the victim’s family and has sought death penalty for the culprits. Ironically the state government of West Bengal has organized a protest march against its own failures. Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi reportedly called it a sham and highlighted the lack of action against criminals and rapists. She alleged that the police in collaboration with “TMC goons” conspired to destroy evidence related to the case. It must be said that the Chief Minister of the state has the power to bring the culprits to book.
