Why cosmetic steps won’t fix law-and-order crisis

With a series of dacoities and related attacks, the Goa government has ordered transfers, police nakabandis, and checks at government offices. But many people are asking whether these steps are only “cosmetic” ” meant to create a false sense of security and show that the government is taking the law-and-order situation seriously.

Why is the Goa government not addressing the root cause when it already knows the main issue? It is aware of the groups involved in these dacoities and the modes of transport they use to commit the crimes and escape. We still see uncontrolled migration into Goa, and there appears to be no action on this. The effectiveness of the Goa Police is also weakened by interference from ruling ministers and political leaders. Simply making changes or transfers within the police force is not enough. The ruling ministers ” who many believe are responsible for the decline in law and order ” must first be held accountable, and even penalised or removed if required.
