Thanks to the vitriolic tongues of our politicians, filmmakers, artists irrespective of any political outfit, the level of discourse in our country continues to slide. By criticizing gods and certain religions, our elected representatives are not doing anything good ; they have mastered the art of denouncing religions in the meanest possible terms.
Kali is worshiped by Hindus all over the world the same way Jesus Christ and Prophet Muhammad are worshiped by Christian and Muslims respectively there are many instances where gods were insulted by artists, film makers and politicians which should be avoided.
The controversy over the Kaali poster was created after filmmaker Leena Manimekalai showed a woman dressed as the goddess smoking, and MP Mahua Moitra of Bengal reacted to the poster. This is unacceptable to majority of the Hindus. Many such incidents have happened over the years, jocular comments about Hindu deities have become a common practice in our country. We need to be more careful the next time we choose our MPs or MLAs, panchs, etc. Spewing venom in this manner should not be tolerated.
The best way to teach the artistic freedom a lesson is by making law of the land strong and punishing heavily such people offending or playing with the sentiments of any religion. This is the need of the hour and the government should enact a law which will act as deterrent for such acts in future so that peace and tranquility is maintained in the country.
