PORVORIM
As many as 87 candidates are contesting elections in 31 wards of the three panchayats of Socorro, Penha da Franca and Salvador do Mundo in the Porvorim constituency.
There are 35 candidates (23 male and 12 female) eyeing the 11 wards of the Socorro panchayat.
Four wards have been reserved for women, while six candidates are contesting in the general Ward 3. There will be a straight fight in Wards 6 and 9. Former sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar will not contest the election as his Ward 10 has been reserved for the Scheduled Caste.
There are 29 candidates (20 male and 9 female) contesting in 11 wards of Penha de Franca panchayat. Siddhesh Naik from Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte’s panel has been elected unopposed from Ward 8. The post of sarpanch has been reserved for women.
Seven candidates will contest in the general Ward 1, while there will be a straight fight in Wards 3,4,5,6,7,10 and11.
There are 23 candidates (11 male and 12 women) contesting in nine wards of Salvador do Mundo panchayat. The post of sarpanch has been reserved for women.
Sandeep Salgaonkar (Ward 2) and Reena Fernandes (Ward 3) from Khaunte’s panel have been elected unopposed like in the last panchayat election.
