A taxi driver was arrested for allegedly molesting a tourist while getting off the car at around midnight in Anjuna, police officials informed.
According to information provided by police, the tourist who is a native of Chennai landed at Dabolim airport around midnight and boarded a sharing taxi up to Anjuna.
“The other passengers got down at Panaji while she proceeded to her destination in Anjuna. However, while stepping out of the cab, the taxi driver grabbed her thereby outraging her modesty. She immediately ran into the villa,” Mapusa SDPO, Jivba Dalvi informed.
The tourist lodged a complaint against the alleged taxi driver on Saturday.
Soon after launching an investigation, Anjuna Police identified the taxi and the accused driver Mithun Shrikant a native of Gulbarga, Karnataka was apprehended.
He was arrested under Section 354-A within two hours of lodging the complaint by Anjuna PI Prashal Dessai and PSI Sahil Warang.
Anjuna Police is investigating further.
