Zuari Bridge viewing towers: A very risky proposition

The state government has an ambitious tourism plan of building viewing towers on the new Zuari bridge. Just because something may have worked abroad, it doesn’t mean we should ape it blindly in Goa. Our state falls on the same seismic fault line as Gujarat and Maharashtra. In case of an earthquake, such towers risk falling down. They could further fall on the nearby bridge. We do not need a WTO twin-tower style repeat here. The priority now should be to build a new Borim bridge. We already have the cable-stayed bridge in Aldona which is a visual treat. We could now perhaps have an example of a cantilever bridge. Rather than extravagance, we need projects that leave behind a lasting impression.

Is Health Minister a political leader of Poriem and Valpoi?

It is shocking to learn that 85 per cent of the selected candidates for the posts of LDCs in GMC are from Valpoi and Poriem constituencies. It appears that Health Minister thinks that his responsibility is limited to Poriem and Valpoi and not Goa. If he is made the CM, then probably he will provide jobs to people of his constituency, more so to get their votes.
