Sarkar Tumchya Dari (Government at your doorstep) sounds good to the ears, but the reality is different. It is not exactly tumchya dari, but one has to make a number of trips to government offices to get5 one’s work done. People do not mind going to government offices, but they have to be assured their work will be done with any hassle. If one wants to build a small house, it is not so easy. It takes several trips to various government departments -- may be more than one year to complete the formalities. The reasons: he/she is on leave or transferred or on sight inspection and so on. This has to stop and somebody has to be held accountable. Now since elections are near, political parties will do good to add to their manifestos the time limits for different types of documentation. Also, once elected, the winning party, which will form the government, should ensure that the manifesto promise is fulfilled.
