The strengthening El Niño has disrupted Goa’s southwest monsoon, causing a rainfall deficit of 31% to 34% and leaving the season unusually dry. Large-scale tree cutting without adequate reforestation has worsened the situation, as trees help sustain rainfall and ecological balance. Poor rainfall is affecting farmers’ ability to grow crops, fruits and vegetables, threatening food security and potentially pushing up prices. Water scarcity from February to May could affect everyone. We must protect forests, support farmers and use water wisely. If we continue destroying nature, the consequences could be devastating. Let us heed nature’s warning and act before it is too late.
