Both private and government banks operating under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework should support and observe Teachers’ Day as a gesture of gratitude, appreciation and recognition of teachers.
Banks are patronised by villagers and have been functioning profitably in our communities. The Bank of India (BOI) and Union Bank of India (UBI), Chinchinim branches, have been sponsoring Teachers’ Awards since 2011, presenting cash awards of Rs 5,500 along with citations. They have responded positively to the P.C. Trust Teacher Felicitations programme, recognising teachers from different categories, including subject teachers, and extending the initiative beyond Chinchinim. Other banks, including HDFC Bank, IDBI Bank, ICICI Bank, Lokmanya Tilak Bank and others, should also recognise this social responsibility as a gesture of goodwill and appreciation. They could organise such programmes at their premises or support the annual Teachers’ Felicitations conducted by P.C. Trust. Such initiatives are not extraordinary; they are a meaningful way of fulfilling social responsibility and supporting community-oriented programmes.
Society, schools, parents and students would appreciate this symbolic gesture of gratitude towards teachers, who help shape future generations.
