The ruling BJP has now launched its “Seva Jyoti Yatra” to counter the Congress-led “Goy Rakhonn Yatra” from October 7, apparently to influence traditional voters, particularly in North Goa, and shore up its image by highlighting the government’s so-called achievements. If the BJP has truly taken everyone along and delivered development across Goa, as its leaders claim, why is it limiting the “Seva Jyoti Yatra” to just 20 constituencies in North Goa? Why is it not taking the same yatra to constituencies in South Goa and Salcete? The selective nature of the exercise raises questions about the BJP’s confidence ahead of the Assembly elections. It appears the party knows it is on shaky ground and is therefore reaching out to voters in constituencies where it feels the need to regain support. There is also speculation that the BJP is indirectly working with leaders of some opposition parties in an attempt to divide the non-BJP vote. The selective rallies appear to be part of a desperate effort to revive its fortunes and make a comeback in Goa.
