Specific landlords in Colva who have inherited vast areas of land which were carefully preserved by their ancestors, seem to have now gone berserk and selling as much as they can mainly to 'money bags' from outside the state. One can argue that it's their land but one main concern here is various environmental laws are being violated including filling of lands (illegally), cutting of heritage trees including banyan trees etc. and these landlords with connections to top Goan senior BJP politicians seem to be getting away with it; and sad part is many Colvenkars are looking the other way! These areas which used to be cool and had minimum pollution levels are now changing owing to the massive destruction of environment, trees etc. These landlords could have put the land to great use in various eco-friendly ways to benefit the village/quality of life, but their mindset is only housing complexes, villas, swimming pools and more of concrete. This is a big warning to Colvenkars that Colva is gradually being destroyed and polluted, to feed the greed of select few.
