Delayed prize money payment to sportspersons shameful

It is a shame that sportsperson who brought glory to Goa have not received their prize money since 2023 (TGE Sept 2). The amount is a minuscule Rs 19 lakh, compared to what has been spent all these years on unwanted events, banners and advertisements. The Sports Minister, replying to his colleague who had raised the issue, informed that the amount would be released after examining the claims and supporting documents. Does the process take three years? The sportspersons might have spent money from their pocket and/or taken loan to participate in the various events. What is the point in distributing the prize money after three years? It is like celebrating one’s happy occasion (birthday, wedding anniversary, promotion etc.) after the date has passed. If the government is really serious, the sportspersons should be paid their dues with three years interest, and before Ganesh Chaturthi.
