Flyovers are not race tracks, they have speed limits

Several fatal road accidents have occurred in Goa as the State observes Road Safety Week, raising concerns about road discipline. A man and woman reportedly travelling at high speed died after falling from the Baina flyover in Vasco, reportedly the third mishap there. The recently opened Porvorim flyover has also witnessed a fatal accident. With flyovers becoming an important part of Goa’s transport infrastructure, motorists must remember they are meant to improve traffic movement, not become race tracks. Over-speeding reduces reaction time and increases accident severity. Authorities can install warning signs, barriers, lighting and speed-monitoring systems, but cannot deploy cameras and personnel everywhere. Road safety ultimately depends on users. Drivers must obey speed limits and remain alert.
