High Court intervention raises hopes of traffic relief

The Bombay High Court at Goa’s directive to the State government to implement traffic management measures along Dayanand Bandodkar Marg in Panaji to address congestion caused by casino-related activities, illegal parking and indiscriminate passenger drop-offs is a welcome move. The stretch from Casino Pride, near the Betim ferry point and Congress House, to Big Daddy Casino and the Captain of Ports area becomes chaotic every evening and late at night, with traffic often coming to a standstill. Commuters have endured this problem for years, yet the authorities, including the Corporation of the City of Panaji, appear to have failed to find an effective solution.  Now that the High Court has taken serious note of the situation, it is hoped that the State government will implement the prescribed measures without further delay. Commuters deserve relief from this daily ordeal, particularly during the evening and late-night hours.
