I was deeply shocked and hurt to see posters advertising the Halloween Paradise party in Vagator and Calangute, depicting a Catholic nun with a holy cross. What connection does Halloween entertainment have with the sacred symbols and religious figures of the Catholic faith? Religious beliefs and symbols must never be reduced to commercial props for entertainment or profit. Such imagery can hurt the sentiments of faithful Catholics and undermine the dignity of the community. It is disappointing that Goans, parish priests, nuns and elected representatives have not raised their voices strongly enough against this issue. I urge the Goa government to investigate the matter and take appropriate action, including reconsidering the event if deliberate religious disrespect or any violations are established. Tourism and commercial interests cannot take precedence over religious dignity, mutual respect and communal harmony. Religion is sacred, not a marketing tool. The people of Goa deserve assurance that all religions and their holy symbols will be treated with dignity and respect.
