On September 11 the flyover opened to traffic and on September 12 at 6 pm a major accident occurred at the entry-exit point near the hotel. Allegedly a rash car driver hit a two-wheeler that crashed into a truck. The two-wheeler rider and a woman in the car died while the driver and a nine-year-old girl were injured (TGE Sep 12, 2026). Now the blame-game has started. Reportedly, two months back the traffic department had warned the PWD of possible mishaps due to confusion at the entry-exit points, crisscross traffic movement, absence of channelisers and insufficient directional signages. The traffic lights on NH-66, dismantled during the flyover’s construction, were to be reinstalled. Nothing seems to have been done and no responsibilities will be fixed. On September 13 at the same site, a two-wheeler was hit by a car. Authorities boast about providing smooth roads, well-built bridges etc. None bothers once crores of rupees are sanctioned and contracts are signed. In the future, prior to inaugurating major infrastructure projects the chief guests could verify if safety measures are in place. If not, delay the opening till all works are completed.
