Daily we read about several cases taken up in different courts where various judges pronounce verdicts. These may be related to the environment, monetary scams, property disputes, illegal constructions, bounced cheques, robbery, amongst others. In almost all instances, the names of the judges (whatever their designations) are revealed in the newspapers. Is this necessary? Will this not put judges at risk, especially those in the lower courts or those who do not have police protection and security? They may also be approached for certain considerations, be compromised, or be threatened.
When judges are named, newspapers should also name the parties or persons who carried out illegal activities. Many a time, builders, resort owners, high-profile lawbreakers and several others are not named, nor is their work or business. What is the reason for keeping such people outside the purview of readers and the public? Sometimes, a newspaper may expose the offenders, while most remain mum. Hence, why not stop naming judges, unless they wish to be named, in newspapers and other print media?
