A floral festival celebrated by the Hindu women of Telangana, is celebrated as per the Telugu version of the Hindu calendar in October. Primarily a women's festival, a symbol of Telangana’s cultural identity was recently celebrated by the women of Sao Jose de Areal with flowers that grow exclusively in this region. It heralds the beauty of nature in vibrant colors of and an abundance of flowers.
After playing in circles around the “Batukammalu”, before the onset of dusk, the women folk carry them on their heads and move as a procession towards a water body while singing folk songs. The Batukammalu are then slowly immersed in water.
