On August 3 and 4, Goa Chitra Ethnographic museum will be launching two unique live action role playing games. Both games will allow randomized groups of 4-5 players to experience alternate realities influenced by the history of Goa and India. The first, ‘Lost in time’ which will be held on August 3, is about a tribe’s quest for survival and identity in a land where past and present have mixed up. The second, ‘Thus the wheel spoke’, which will be held on August 4, is a search for the ultimate perpetual motion machine.
The objects at Goa Chitra museum are not just interesting artifacts but relics that tell the tales of a shared past of Sultans, Portuguese, Marathas and Kadambas amongst so many others. Over the next five months, the museum space will be hosting several such fantasy quests influenced by these numerous histories. Created by Mahima Samant, a student of BITS Goa as a part of her undergraduate thesis project, these games are inspired by the Escape room format that has exploded across the globe. Mahima is a budding entrepreneur and has also conducted games at NVEco Farm, Sanvordem amongst other eco-tourism projects.
Interspersed with stories, riddles, secret tasks and the mystic wonder of antiques, the first of these games was trial run on July 14. While the participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves and forged new friendships through their shared adventures, the discussions incited post the game were insightful to all as they compared current technologies and sensibilities to those of their ancestors. Throughout Mahima’s thesis multiple such games will be tested and conducted to finally be incorporated as a weekly feature at Goa Chitra. Both the games will be 60-75 minutes long and will be followed by evening tea, snacks and a tour of the 3 museums: Goa Chakra, Goa Cruti and Goa Chitra. Incase the slots for August 3 and 4 fill up, those interested will be allotted another weekend slot as per their choice, inform organisers. Pre-registration is compulsory.
